Chhaava OTT Release Date: Vicky Kaushal recently headlined a period actioner which is winning hearts at the box office. Released theatrically on 14th February this year, the film has grossed over Rs 715 crore worldwide and is slightly slowing down now. Parallelly, this Laxman Utekar directorial is also inching closer to its OTT debut and here are five things that you must know about Chhaava before streaming it.
Chhaava will be streaming on Netflix starting April 11, 2025 in Hindi and Telugu with subtitles available in all other major languages.
The film tells the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji, who takes charge of the Marathas after his father¡¯s death. While the Mughals celebrate, Sambhaji continues the resistance, using guerrilla tactics to fight Emperor Aurangzeb¡¯s forces.
Despite internal betrayals, he stands firm but is eventually captured and tortured. Refusing to surrender, he is executed, but his legacy lives on as his wife Yesubai crowns Rajaram as the new leader. Their continued struggle paves the way for the fall of the Mughal Empire and the rise of Swaraj.
The Times of India rated Chhaava 3.5 out of 5 and a part of their review read, ¡°Chhaava¡¯s redeeming factor is its terrific climax. Vicky Kaushal is breathtaking as he exudes Sambhaji Maharaj¡¯s valour and passion for swarajya like it were his second skin. You just wish the film relied on and trusted its story more than Rahman's music, which largely feels out of place.¡±
Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Chhaava¡¯s music has been composed by A.R. Rahman with songs like Aaya Re Toofan and Jaane Tu emerging as chartbusters. Based on the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant, the film is cinematographed by Saurabh Goswami and edited by Manish Pradhan. Pen Marudhar has distributed the film in India and Yash Raj Films handled overseas.
Other than Vicky, the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Diana Penty, Neil Bhoopalam, Ashutosh Rana, Varun Buddhadev, Sanchita Ugale, Divya Dutta, Vineet Kumar Singh, Santosh Juvekar, Alok Nath, Pradeep Rawat, Kiran Karmarkar, Balaji Manohar, Anil George, Neelkante Patekar and Sarang Sathaye among others.
