Malayalam actor Shiny Sarah recently exposed a fraudulent casting scam that attempted to lure her into paying money for a fake role in a Tamil film. She said she initially received a Whatsapp notification and scammers told her she was being considered for the role of Rajinikanth¡¯s wife in an upcoming movie, but their changing narratives and insistence on immediate payment raised red flags.
Shiny revealed that she initially received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number, claiming her application had been approved through a casting agency. The message stated that she was selected to play the wife of Rajinikanth¡¯s on-screen son in?Jailer 2. However, as conversations progressed, the role was suddenly changed, she was now being considered for Rajinikanth¡¯s wife instead.
The scammers told her that she needed an ¡°artist card¡± to work in Kollywood and demanded ?12,500 for it. When she said the industry doesn¡¯t require such a card, they insisted that one would be arranged for her after a video interview, for which she had to wear a saree.
Shiny Sarah is a character artist known for her performances in?Sufiyum Sujatayum,?Kaathal¡ªThe Core, and?Maheshinte Prathikaaram. She was last seen in?Thanupp. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth, who starred in?Jailer?(2023), has recently appeared in?Lal Salaam?and?Vettaiyan?(2024). He is currently working on?Jailer 2?and?Coolie.
Shiny became suspicious when one of the scammers claimed she was being cast as Rajinikanth¡¯s wife, despite actor Ramya Krishnan already playing that role in?Jailer 2. When she questioned this, they quickly shifted their claim, saying she was instead being considered for another film.
The fraudsters asked for her Aadhaar details and a photograph, and then pressured her to make an immediate partial payment. ¡°I told them it would take two days to arrange the money, but they insisted on an initial deposit right away. That made me suspicious,¡± she said.
Realizing something was off, Shiny tried reaching out to her friends in the industry, including actors Maala Parvathi and Lijomol Jose, but couldn¡¯t get through. She then consulted another artist, who confirmed that the ¡°artist card¡± was not mandatory for getting work in Kollywood. This validated her doubts, preventing her from falling victim to the scam.
Shiny¡¯s revelation highlights the increasing number of fraudsters targeting aspiring and established actors with fake job offers. Her quick thinking and skepticism saved her from financial loss and identity theft.??
