A Delhi couple has been arrested by the Nagpur Police for allegedly stealing 38 laptops from a city-based businessman. The duo, identified as Pawan Kumar Bir Singh and Anita Sharma, were arrested from a train near Bodh Gaya in Bihar last week.
According to Sandeep Rane, a resident of Nagpur, the couple approached him seeking to rent a commercial space in Bajaj Nagar. They introduced themselves as representatives of TAWC, a Delhi-based company.
Claiming that they were planning to expand their business operations into Nagpur, the duo rented office space and sought Rane's help in procuring 70 used but fully functional laptops.
The unsuspecting victim then introduced them to another businessman, Ajay Mate, who ran an electronics and hardware shop. On October 18, the couple purchased eight old and two new laptops from him, promising immediate payment.
Despite their failure to make the first payment, the couple convinced the businessman to sell them 28 more new laptops.
Mate approached the police after the couple fled Nagpur with the laptops.
According to the police, the couple had been on the run until they were traced to Bodh Gaya. They were arrested with the help of the Railway Police while trying to flee on a train.
During the investigation, the cops learned that the couple had committed similar crimes in Noida and Delhi as well. According to the police, the couple has stolen more than 100 laptops so far and sold them in underground markets in the national capital.
