Amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan, former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has stirred the social media storm with a series of posts on micro-blogging platform X, expressing his thoughts on the ongoing conflict. His tweet, "An eye for an eye makes the world blind," has not only sparked controversy but also led to a barrage of criticism from netizens.
Rayudu's comment, while attempting to call for peace, was seen by many as an inappropriate remark in the face of heightened tensions between the two countries. His plea for peace at a time when India was actively responding to military aggression from Pakistan was met with harsh backlash, with users accusing him of undermining the seriousness of the situation.
In an effort to clarify his stance, Rayudu followed up with another tweet, stating, "Prayers for peace and safety in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and other parts of India along the border. Hoping for strength, security, and swift resolution for everyone affected. Jai Hind!" However, this did little to quell the criticism, as many continued to question his earlier statement.
Rayudu attempted to explain the intent behind his initial tweet, stating, "This isn¡¯t a call for weakness, but a reminder of wisdom." He further expressed his admiration for the Indian Armed Forces, acknowledging their sacrifices and courage in protecting the nation. "In moments like these, we stand united not in fear, but in resolve," he tweeted, also expressing gratitude for the bravery of the military. He concluded with, "Your bravery is what keeps the tricolour flying high and our borders safe."
Despite his clarifications, the backlash continued, with many questioning whether his remarks were appropriate during a time when the country was in a state of heightened alert. Rayudu¡¯s posts came just hours after an IPL match in Dharamsala was called off due to power outages linked to the ongoing conflict, leading to the evacuation of spectators.
As the India-Pakistan tensions continue to escalate, figures like Rayudu find themselves in a delicate position, where every statement is scrutinised and every opinion questioned. The situation is far from over, and many are wondering how such statements will be perceived in the midst of the crisis.
