As soon as Porsche unveiled its first ever battery electric vehicle prior to the Frankfurt Motor Show, comparisons between the Taycan Turbo S and the Model S started gaining steam on the internet. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has now raked the competition further with a recent tweet directed at the new Porsche¡¯s name!
As you might know, the new all electric Porsche comes in two variants - the Taycan Turbo and the Taycan Turbo S. Elon Musk has taken a dig at the term ¡®Turbo¡¯ used for the name. While the term is mostly associated with IC engines for indicating turbo-charged engines and Porsche has used it on the 911 range. Here though Porsche has used it for its electric car. Naturally, this was a clear shot for Musk to take. He tweeted:
It is easy to guess that the tweet went viral on social media shortly after. Here is a tech-billionaire who started the pursuit for electric vehicles, taking a dig at another, very potent electric vehicle. All because this was a direct competition to the Tesla make.?
Not in numbers though, as the top spec Tesla Model S trumps the Porsche Taycan Turbo S in almost every aspect. One, however, as claimed by Porsche, was that the Taycan is able to deliver high-speed performance repeatedly over time without losing much of the battery capacity. The company specifically claimed that the performance was better than the Tesla Model S.
Of course, Musk would not let that go easily. So the next tweet by him was a direct take on that. He has now promised that a Tesla Model S will be going under the same experiment next week at the N¨¹rburgring track in Germany. The one area where the Taycan could claim to be better than the Model S might not be there soon, i.e. if the Model S beats its timing.
Of course Musk also got a lot of flak for his tweets so he did concede that the Taycan seems like "a good car".
In the end, the winner is the consumer.
