Rad Power Bikes has launched a new version of arguably its most popular electric bike - the RadWagon. RadWagon 4, as the new version is called, now comes in a sportier look and allows riders to carry even more cargo than before. The electric bike has been launched at a starting price of $1,599 (Rs 1.21 lakh).
The RadWagon series has always had this plus of offering more cargo space to riders over all other electric bicycles on offer. It makes them viable too, especially for those looking to shift to a greener mobility option. A common shortcoming with electric bikes is that even for short distances, riders cannot carry too much baggage.
Building on occupying this space in the market,?Rad Power Bikes has made some improvements on their existing RadWagon series and introduced the RadWagon 4. The price of $1,599 currently stands at $1,499, as for now, the company is only taking pre-orders for the e-bike. Shipping is scheduled to start in September.
So what happens when it hits the roads? We can expect people using it to make their weekly trips to the grocery stores and do other such chores. To help those who can¡¯t peddle the whole time, the connected battery will always prove helpful.
That is for a range of 45 miles (~72 km) on a single charge. The promised range is through its 48V, 14Ah lithium ion battery that powers its 750W geared hub motor, increasing the torque on this version. The combination is being claimed to carry a total of 158 kg of weight easily.
Apart from the design, Rad has also lowered the center of gravity of the electric bike in comparison with its outgoing model. The new e-bike tries to provide a stable ride by using custom 22x3-inch tires. The tyres are smaller but wider than before to provide extra cushioning. There is no other stand-alone suspension system on the bike.
As for the cargo space, RadWagon 4 now comes with an extra-long rear rack that is laden with wooden panels. Additionally, the bike¡¯s frame extends on both sides of the wheel to protect anything from the cargo mingling with the spokes. The same arrangement acts for the safety of a passenger too.
For those carrying extra weights, Rad Power Bikes sells e-bike accessories such as a caboose, running boards and even passenger pegs.
Among these changes, the company did not feel the need to lower its weight, which still stands at around 35 kg. Considering this and the fact that the e-bike is 79 inches long, do not expect to carry it with you wherever you go.?
