As electric vehicles find an increased adoption all over the world, two-wheeler majors are working towards bringing their electric offerings to the international markets.? If recent reports are to be believed, Honda is the latest one to join the bandwagon.
The company is said to be working on multiple electric bike models. A new report by VisorDown shows patent images of one of the upcoming electric bikes by the company and based on that, the vehicle seems to be an electric iteration of Honda CB125R.
The report also mentions that Honda recently patented the design for the electric CB125R. The patent hints that the electric bike by Honda is likely in its final stages of development.
Even though there is no confirmation from the company as of now, the patent images reveal a lot about what Honda is coming up with. As mentioned, the frame of the bike is that of a CB125R, equipped with an electric motor.
For the most parts, the bike as showcased in the patent image is identical to the IC engine version of CB125R. This would allow Honda to quicken the production process of the electric bike, replacing only the petrol engine parts with an electric drivetrain.
A separate image sheds light on the electric powertrain too. The motor sports a pancake-style design with an elongated diameter and short width. This would allow the motor to be fit into the frame of the existing CB125R.
Since the electric bike is based on the CB125R, a similar performance can be expected of it once it rolls out in Honda¡¯s two-wheeler markets.
That means that the electric bike could possibly churn out close to 13 hp and reach top speeds of close to 130 kmph. All this, of course, would be in addition to a heightened acceleration, thanks to the instant torque on electric motors.
