The legendary and most-celebrated star of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan will be honoured with the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award, the highest film honour. I&B minister Prakash Javadekar announced the news via Twitter and soon the wishes started to pour in from the B-Town.
Filmmaker R Balki, who has collaborated with Amitabh Bachchan for many films, told PTI, "Amitabh Bachchan will be the first person to win a best actor award after winning the Dada Saheb Phalke award."
Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari said that the award was a testimony to Amitabh Bachchan's immense contribution to Indian cinema.
Taapsee Pannu who has worked with Amitabh Bachchan in movies like Pink and Badla said he "truly deserves all honours possible concerning Indian cinema."
Amitabh Bachchan, meanwhile, was full of gratitude, deeply grateful and so humbled. ¡°I am deeply grateful and so humbled. My sincerest gratitude," he was quoted as saying by India Today.
The award comes in the same year when Amitabh Bachchan has completed 50 years in the industry. Big B debuted in Bollywood in 1969, the same year when the first ever Dada Saheb Phalke award was given to Devika Rani.
