After almost ten hours of streaming Shujaat Saudagar¡¯s Bambai Meri Jaan, the biggest question on everyone¡¯s mind is - will there be a season 2? If yes, then will Habiba be the new lordess of Bombay?
It centers around police officer Ismail Kadri (played by Kay Kay Menon) and his family. Kadri is an honest cop who chooses his integrity over an upended life of making an alliance with gangsters for monetary gain. His family of six has many struggles and making ends meet holds centrestage. At his workplace, he is respected and valued but in his own home, his kids are rueful that he is unable to provide for them while their peers enjoy a better lifestyle. Due to a meager salary of Rs 54, Ismail is only able to put Dara in an English medium school while his other two sons only dream of an upgrade.
Kadri is hell bent on not ditching his principles but his family particularly Dara thinks otherwise. After a lot of ups and downs, Ismail finds himself working for Haji and becoming his informer to save his family. Cut to several years later, where Dara (played by Avinash Tiwary) is all grown up and trying to make an identity of his own in Bombay. He dreams of having a gang and holding supreme power in the streets of his mashuka Bambai.
Soon he joins Haji¡¯s business but faces a lot of retaliation from his existing gang members. This is when he hatches a plan of overthrowing the trio in power and becoming the mafia king. Thus begins, attacks from both the sides to exert their power and evaluate who can hold the fort better.
Ismail tries to reason with his son Dara and make him understand that this tug of war will only lead to a never-ending revenge saga. However, Dara without paying any heed to his old man¡¯s advice begins a bloodbath that shocks the city and the law and order alike.
Pathaan hires Ganiya Surve(Sumeet Vyas), a professional killer to assassinate the entire Kadri family. Ganiya¡¯s men ambush Dara¡¯s house but fail as they all are met with a kiss of death. Parallely, Ganiya and his two men Raiszada and Haroon tail Saadiq who is on a date with the woman that he is having an extramarital affair with. They successfully kill Saadiq and celebrate their victory prematurely as they aren¡¯t aware that the other Kadris have managed to escape.?
Post this tragic loss, Dara sees red and makes it his mission to eliminate every single person who was involved in his brother¡¯s murder. With the help of police officer Ranbir Malik(Shiv Pandit), he stages an encounter which results in Ganiya¡¯s death. However, Raiszada and Haroon manage to escape and this marks the beginning of a thrilling chase. Haroon escapes to the unknown and the former surrenders himself to the police as he knows that the police custody is the only place where he will remain alive.
With Haroon being untraceable, the Kadris work on a plan to kill Raiszada. Officer Malik is incapacitated as the higher authorities have doubts on his credibility and therefore, he denies helping Dara. On his sister Habiba¡¯s insistence, Dara then hires a henchman named Chhota to ensure that Raiszada never reaches court and is finished off on the way.
In a thrilling sequence, Chhota boldly kills Raiszada inside the court premises without getting caught. In another blow for the Kadri family, Dara¡¯s mother Sakina is diagnosed with a heart ailment.?
Habiba tells his brothers that Haroon and Pathaan are still alive and they need to be killed off because only then their revenge will be completed. Dara is then tipped off about Pathaan¡¯s location by Chhota. Taking Abdullah along, Dara and Chhota visit the hotel where Pathaan is known to be staying. They make a silent entrance in his room. Dara then kills Pathaan by shooting a bullet just between his eyes.?
With this, Dara Kadri becomes the Badshah of Bambai as his two biggest rivals Pathaan and Anna are wiped out . As for Haji, he has always been his ally and well-wisher.?
D Company wreaks havoc throughout the city as each and every gang member of Anna and Pathaan¡¯s gang is killed one by one. Considering the unrest in the city, a curfew is imposed and Commissioner of Police orders Malik to arrest Dara lest he loses his job. Malik being a loyal alliance tips the Kadri family to flee from Mumbai or else he¡¯ll be forced to arrest Dara. The family decides to leave for Dubai but Ismail takes a stand and announces that he¡¯ll stay put. Sakina also declines the offer and chooses to stay by her husband¡¯s side.?
Dara, Abdullah and Ajju then decide to leave anyway as the police is enroute their home. That is when Habiba also announces that she¡¯ll stay with their parents and take care of their business.?
Malik is shocked to find Habiba, Ismail, and Sakina there. In a very poignant scene, Habiba is shown taking Dara¡¯s seat thus hinting that she is the one in charge from here on. Special mention for Kritika Kamra who has played the role of Habiba with so much conviction that she seems tailor-made for the role of the mafia queen.?
In the last scene of Bambai Meri Jaan, the narrative shifts to Gujarat, where a carefree Haroon orders tea and goes for his morning dump out in the open facing the sea. Just then, the kid working in the tea shop shoots him dead, putting the final nail in the coffin of the Kadris¡¯ revenge plan.?
The series comes to a close with Habiba¡¯s voiceover which is a big indication that the next season is likely to focus on her reign in Bambai.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, the show creators Rensil D¡¯Silva and Farhan Akhtar outrightly denied that Bambai Meri Jaan is gangster Dawood Ibrahim or Haji Mastan¡¯s story.?
D¡¯silva said, ¡°No it is not. It is not. It (Dawood and Haji's references) might be something that seeped into the consciousness of the audience because of Hussain Zaidi's involvement in the show. (But) He has created a fictional story and he brought it to Farhan and Ritesh. They liked it and then it came to me. Every fiction is inspired by something real, but I can assure you) this show is totally fictional."?
