Netflix has unveiled a glimpse of the highly anticipated Season 2 of its immensely popular South Korean drama series, Squid Game, featuring 456 players engaged in deadly games for a hefty cash prize.
Netflix shared the teaser clip on Thursday. The video reveals Seong Gi-hun at the airport, receiving a foreboding call stating, "You'll regret your decision." In response, an angered yet resolute Gi-hun declares, "I will find you. No matter what it takes."?
Netflix also shared some pictures from the new season of Squid Game with the caption, "First look images. Squid Game Season 2. Coming 2024."
In the upcoming season, Gi-hun deviates from his U.S. travel plans "following a cryptic call and initiates a pursuit with a specific motive," as stated by Netflix.
Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk hinted to The Hollywood Reporter that Season 2's themes seamlessly continue from the first season. When crafting it, he reflected on the moment when Gi-hun decided against boarding the plane, contemplating what his next course of action would be.
Reprising his role as Gi-hun is Lee Jung-jae, who clinched an Emmy for the character in 2022, marking a historic win as the first Asian actor to receive the lead actor in a drama series award.
Season 2 will see the return of familiar characters such as Detective Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon), the enigmatic Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), and the cunning Recruiter (Gong Yoo).
Netflix has also announced fresh faces joining the Season 2 cast, including Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, and Park Gyu-young.
The release date for the long-awaited Squid Game season remains undisclosed, but as Netflix unveiled the sneak peek as part of its 2024 film and television lineup on Thursday, it hints that the series will premiere in 2024 only.
