The uproar began when viewers of Gaurav's YouTube vlogs noted that Ritu was rarely featured in his videos and that they had recently gone on a trip in which Ritu was barely seen. People began enquiring as to why Ritu is so distant these days in the comments sections of Instagram posts and YouTube videos. Following this, a video of Ritu Rathee asking Premanand Maharaj questions about her life at "Bhajan Marg" became viral. According to the viral video, Ritu inquired as to what to do after being the target of some lies (chall, kapat) and if she ought to fight for the custody of their two girls.??

After the video spread on the internet and speculation became unstoppable, Gaurav took to his Instagram and shared his reaction. He went on to write, “I will remain quiet for my kids and the mother of my child. Ready to live with all the negativity and hate for my entire life. Please don’t expect any public explanation. Please stop making any assumptions. Men are made villains very fast. We don’t cry, we talk less and express less. Some of us are hardwired like that. Social media is not a place to discuss family matters. I have nothing to say.”
