I¡¯m Still Here OTT Details: This award season has seen films like Wicked, Emilia P¨¦rez, Anora?and The Brutalist grab attention, but a Brazilian film has also earned its place in the spotlight. This Walter Salles directorial tells the true story of Eunice Paiva, whose husband, politician Rubens Paiva, was arrested and mysteriously disappeared during Brazil¡¯s military dictatorship in the 1970s.
Based on the memoir by their son, Marcelo Rubens Paiva, I¡¯m Still Here shows Eunice¡¯s relentless quest to find her husband and the tough choices she makes to keep her children safe. Fernanda Torres gives an unforgettable performance as Eunice and it¡¯s no surprise that she won an Oscar nomination for Best Actress this year.
Just to note, Torres also won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama for this film and is also the first Brazilian to get an Oscar acting nomination since her own mother, Fernanda Montenegro, in 1999. With the film gaining attention during awards season, I¡¯m Still Here also earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and International Feature Film.
After its debut in Brazil, the film is now showing in U.S. theatres just in time for the Academy Awards. It opened in New York and Los Angeles on January 17, expanded to Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. on January 24, and became available nationwide on February 14, 2025.
Since the movie was just released, it might take a while before it hits streaming platforms. Elle reports that given Sony¡¯s previous deals with Netflix, there¡¯s a chance the film could eventually stream there, but that will likely happen after the Oscars on March 2. Stay tuned for the 97th Academy Awards as there¡¯s a lot in place to unfold!
