L2 Empuraan OTT Release Window: Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran have finally arrived in the theatres with their highly anticipated actioner. Released theatrically on 27th March, 2025, the Malayalam film has earned over Rs 200 crore at the box office. Sequel to the 2019 film Lucifer and the second instalment in the L franchise, L2 Empuraan has reportedly locked its OTT deal.
According to industry standards, since L2: Empuraan had a Hindi release and multiplex screenings, it is required to follow the mandatory eight-week theatrical window before transitioning to OTT. Therefore, fans can anticipate the digital release around May 23, 2025, on JioHotstar. An official confirmation is awaited.
L2: Empuraan picks up where Lucifer left off. Stephen Nedumpally (played by Mohanlal) returns to Kerala after a few years and finds the state in political chaos. The new Chief Minister, Jathin Ramdas, has joined forces with some dangerous people, and Stephen, who is also involved in a global crime syndicate, steps back into the game to stop him. The story is about Stephen¡¯s attempt to protect his legacy while dealing with his complicated relationships.
Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy, the film also stars Abhimanyu Singh, Rick Yune, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Saniya Iyappan, Andrea Tivadar, Jerome Flynn, Eriq Ebouaney, Kishore, Baiju, Sai Kumar, Nandu, Nyla Usha and Suraj Venjaramoodu in key roles. With a budget of ?180 crore, it is the most expensive Malayalam film ever.
