After being crushed to death by a vending machine, the main character of the light novels is brought back to life as a sentient vending machine in a fantasy dungeon realm. He soon befriends a young female hunter named Lammis, who calls him "Boxxo" and begins to carry him around on her back. The two begin their dungeon adventures together. Critics have given Reborn as a Vending Machine positive reviews, praising the novels' original interpretation of the isekai genre in particular.
The series was first released in 2016 as a web novel by the author on the website Sh身setsuka ni Nar身, which publishes user-generated content. It was later acquired and published by Kadokawa Shoten in the same year. In August 2021, ASCII Media Works' sh身nen manga magazine Dengeki Daioh began serializing a manga adaptation illustrated by Kunieda.
