The Helicopter Heist is a real-life story based on a novel of the same name. Netflix has now announced its global release. Based on true events, the show will be about the planning behind the daring crime of heist in history.
According to the official description given by Netflix, the series is set in 2009. It is based on the real incident where "a helicopter landed on the roof of the country¡¯s safest cash depot, and the police watched the robbers disappear along with several million dollars."
What exactly happened in reality??
The Helicopter Heist is based on the Vastberga helicopter robbery, which occurred in September 2009 at a G4S cash service depot in Vastberga, southern Stockholm, Sweden. The bandits then stole a Bell 206 Jet Ranger for transportation and landed on the G4S building's rooftop. The police were unable to chase the criminals with their own helicopters because dummy bombs had been planted nearby.
The following day, a reward of 7 million Swedish Krona was advertised for anyone with information that could lead to the thieves' arrest and/or the recovery of the stolen valuables. This was the first helicopter-based robbery in Swedish history.
