Bollywood actor and renowned philanthropist Sonu Sood has found himself amid a social media storm after voicing support for a Swiggy delivery boy accused of stealing a pair of shoes from a customer's residence in Gurugram.
The incident came to light when CCTV footage capturing the alleged theft went viral across various social media platforms.
In the footage, the delivery personnel can be seen purportedly pocketing the shoes after completing the food delivery.
Despite calls for strict action against the accused delivery boy, Sonu Sood took to his official social media account to advocate for compassion and understanding. He suggested that instead of reprimanding the delivery person, he should be gifted a new pair of shoes, implying that he might have been facing dire circumstances prompting such actions.
Sonu's stance garnered mixed reactions from netizens. While some echoed his sentiments, emphasising the importance of empathy and kindness, others vehemently opposed the justification of theft under any circumstances.
The CCTV footage, which circulated widely, depicted the sequence of events leading to the alleged theft. It showed the delivery boy delivering the order and subsequently lingering around the premises. Moments later, he was seen picking up the shoes and concealing them before departing from the scene.
Sonu Sood, recognised for his humanitarian efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, rose to prominence for his tireless endeavors in assisting migrant workers and providing essential aid to those in need. His recent statement adds another layer to his public persona, sparking discussions on ethics and empathy in society.
Amidst the controversy, Sonu Sood continues to engage in his professional commitments, with an upcoming action-packed thriller titled "Fateh," co-starring Jacqueline Fernandez, slated for release in 2024. Directed by Sood himself, the film promises to deliver an adrenaline-fueled cinematic experience for audiences.
