Udta Punjab has had one heck of a journey, and it's not even out yet. Yeah, torrents don't count. Ever since its quirky trailer hit YouTube, Udta Punjab became a film that just couldn’t stop trending. In the news again because of the Censor Board’s ridiculous attempts to tell grown adults what they can or cannot watch, back again with the Bombay High Court's decision, the buzz for the film has been massive. At one point, Twitteratti even went into a panic thinking it was banned! But one look at the trailer and the successive songs that were released on YouTube, and it's easy to see why this film has so much buzz.

Here are 9 reasons we cannot wait for Udta Punjab to hit the screens.?

1. After a long time, we'll get to see a film that will address real issues. The reality of the #PunjabDrugCrisis is worse than we know.?

According to recent reports, Punjab consumes drugs worth Rs 7,500 crore a year which is about Rs 20 crore a day. The number of addicts in Punjab is four times than the global average and an addict in the state spends Rs 1,400 a day to satiate his craving. The drug problem in Punjab is rampant. It’s something that has officially reached a stage where intervention on a national level is required. As such, a film like Udta Punjab that tackles this drug problem head on, is just what we need.

2. After essaying strong character roles in films like Kaminey and Haider, Udta Punjab can just prove to be another high point in Shahid Kapoor's career as an actor.

It may seem difficult to comprehend that Shahid could possibly outdo his brilliant performance in Haider, but if the trailer of Udta Punjab is anything to go by, he might achieve just that. Shahid has had his share of flops but considering the amount of hard work he has put in, in the film, it'd be interesting to see how he fares. *Fingers crossed*.?

4. From Shaandaar's Alia to Udta Punjab's Kumari Pinky, Alia Bhatt's bihari transition looks damn interesting.?

Although the trailer really showed off Shahid’s acting chops, another cast member who might just steal the film from him is Alia Bhatt. Not only is this a completely different and unconventional look for the young actress, but it seems like she will be proving her acting mettle once again.?

5. After conquering Punjabo film and music industry, the film marks Diljit Dosanjh's debut in Hindi Cinema. #EnoughSaid.?

7. After a long time, we'll get to see Kareena in a substantial role. She will be seen?essaying the character of Dr Preet Sahani, who leaves her easy life to move to Punjab to tackle the drug menace in the state! This is a first for Kareena.?

When was the last time you saw Kareena Kapoor Khan in role that was actually meaningful? Her role in Ki and Ka only ended up perpetuating stereotypes. She had an extended cameo in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and the less said about Singham Returns, the better. But with Udta Punjab, we are likely to see the Bebo we’ve always loved and for that, we cannot wait.?

The film that started its journey to emphasize on the idea of 'drugs di maa di' is almost through with its set of battle. After fighting it boldly against the censor board, the film is all set to release as per schedule proving that we can rely on Indian judicial system.
