Chandu Champion, directed by Kabir Khan and starring Kartik Aaryan, tells the inspirational story of an athlete's journey to success. Despite its motivational theme and positive reviews, the film had a slow start at the box office. Chandu Champion earned just Rs 4.75 crore on its first day in theatres, marking Kartik AaryanĄ¯s lowest opening for a film since the pandemic began.
Chandu Champion had an overall Hindi occupancy rate of 16.84% on Friday, June 14, 2024.
Despite mostly positive reviews, Chandu Champion struggled to attract large audiences on its debut. The film, which tells the story of Chandu, an athlete based on IndiaĄ¯s first Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar, will now depend heavily on word-of-mouth to improve its box office performance. The movie also hopes to benefit from the Bakri Eid holiday on Monday.
Compared to other recent releases, Chandu Champion underperformed. For instance, the horror comedy Munjya made Rs 4.21 crore on its first day, and Mr And Mrs Mahi, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, earned Rs 6.85 crore due to discounted Rs 99 tickets.
This slow start makes Chandu Champion Kartik AaryanĄ¯s lowest-grossing film in years. His previous low was Guest in London in 2017, which earned Rs 2.80 crore on its opening day. Recent films like Satyaprem Ki Katha and Shehzada also had higher openings, earning Rs 9.25 crore and Rs 6 crore, respectively.
Chandu Champion is co-produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Kabir Khan. Besides Kartik Aaryan, the film features Vijay Raaz, Rajpal Yadav, and Shreyas Talpade in key roles.
