7 years after India banned Pakistani artists from working in India, the Bombay High Court has lifted such restrictions. This came after a lyricist and film producer sought a complete ban on Pakistani artists in Indian showbiz. Rejecting his plea, the court cleared people¡¯s confusion about national integration and the artist¡¯s craft.
They quoted, ¡°Arts, music, sports, culture, dance and so on are the activities which rise above nationalities, cultures and nations and truly bring about peace, tranquillity, unity and harmony in nation and between nations.¡± The bench added that Faaiz Anwar Qureshi¡¯s plea was ¡°a retrograde step in promoting cultural harmony, unity and peace.¡±
The bench shared, ¡°In our opinion, the petitioner¡¯s perception of patriotism and understanding of the concept of fundamental rights to support the resolutions or notices issued by the private and non-statutory associations such as AICWA, IMPPA, FWICE or MNS Cinema Wing is completely misplaced.¡±
¡°One must understand that in order to be a patriot, one need not be inimical to those from abroad especially, from the neighbouring country.¡±
When the differences between India and Pakistani increased after the Uri conflict in 2016, the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) announced a ban on Pakistani actors and technicians from Bollywood¡®s new projects ¡°till normalcy returns¡¯. The ban lift has made Twitter chirp louder about it.
One user said, ¡°Bollywood music ko bahut bada support mil gya yr atif kharab gane ko v acha bana deta h yr no hate anyone.¡± Another commented, ¡°What was the need for the ban in the first place!?¡± The third one added, ¡°That's great. @GovtofPakistan pls lift the ban on Indian content as well.¡±
One user wrote, ¡°Kya fayda bhakt d¨¡nga karenge agar inko film me le liya to.¡± Another said, ¡°Those who are enjoying and are Pakistani lovers should know one thing. Neither Indian govt will give them visas and nobody will target govt for this. And neither big production banner will take the risk and come in the focus of govt.¡±
