Diwali wasn¡¯t bright enough for the most-anticipated Bollywood movies Thank God and Ram Setu. Although both of the films hit at a coveted time for film releases but went flat in front of Hindi dubbed Kannada film Kantara. This Rishab Shetty¡¯s film has given a stiff competition that reportedly, exhibitors have now started replacing all other shows with Kantara.
If reports in Bollywood Hungama are to be believed, programmers are reducing the screens of Thank God and Ram Setu by a huge margin because of extremely low footfalls. The 6-day extended weekend of Diwali saw Ram Setu standing at INR 56 Crores and Thank God at 29.25 crores. Amidst this, Kantara stands strong having ticket rates approximately 40% lower than Ram Setu and 30% lower than Thank God.
The report read, ¡°The distributors have given tight instructions to keep limited showcasing and avoid the negativity of shows getting cancelled due to zero audience. Some morning and noon shows are already cancelled for Monday, and things don¡¯t look bright for both Ram Setu and Thank God.¡±
Rishabh Shetty who wrote, directed and acted in Kantara is seeing the film¡¯s success as it has emerged as the second biggest Kannada hit after KGF: 2. Produced by Hombale Films, the production house of KGF films, Kantara also stars Sapthami Gowda, Kishore, and Achyuth Kumar.
Thank God is a fantasy comedy-drama directed by Indra Kumar. The film that stars Ajay Devgn, Sidharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh in lead roles is an official of the Danish film Sorte Kulgar. Before its release, the film also fell into a religious controversy as some viewers alleged Ajay¡¯s character was a mockery of the Hindu deity Chitragupta.
Ram Setu on the other hand featured Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nushrratt Bharuccha and Satya Dev leading the film. Directed by Abhishek Sharma, this action-adventure film opened to mixed reviews from critics and audiences.
