On its first day of release, Randeep Hooda's "Swatantrya Veer Savarkar" brought in Rs 1.15 crore. The lead character in the biopic is Hooda. On Friday, it saw a 15.40 percent overall occupancy in the Hindi belt.
On the second day the film performed a little better. Swatantrya Veer Savarkar has collected Rs 2.25 crore bringing the total to Rs 3.30 Crore.
Furthermore, Kunal Kemmu's comedic caper Madgaon Express, which features an ensemble cast including Divyenndu, Pratik Gandhi, Avinash Tiwary, Nora Fatehi, Upendra Limaye, and Chhaya Kadam, poses a great competition to the movie.?
The actor said as per IANS: ¡°This is an anti-propaganda film. It will counter all the propaganda against Savarkar that has been going on since decades. He was not a 'maafiveer' (apologist). Not only him, many other people too wrote mercy petitions at the time. I have addressed this very extensively in the film¡±.
¡°There were petitions and bail pleas. It's the right of any prisoner. If anyone has been to a court, they would know how the court is addressed. He was lodged in cellular jail, he wanted to get out of there and contribute to the country culturally and politically. He did whatever he could to come out and contribute to the country,¡± he added.
¡°There have been films on Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru and many others. The US has made 'Oppenheimer' based on the father of the atomic bomb J. Robert Oppenheimer. In our country we are shooting down our own icons,¡± he added.
Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, also known as Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, was one of the most significant and controversial individuals in Indian history and is portrayed in the film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.
Co-produced by Roopa Pandit, Sam Khan, Anwar Ali, and Panchali Chakraborty, it is produced by Zee Studios, Anand Pandit, Sandeep Singh, Randeep Hooda, and Yogesh Rahar.
In addition to Randeep Hooda, Ankita Lokhande and Amit Sial also feature in the movie. On March 22, it was made available in Hindi and Marathi.
