‘What A Vibe’: Twitter Goes Gaga Over The Announcement Of Mani Ratnam’s Magnum Opus PS-2

One of the most awaited films of veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan 2 is announced. The PS franchise which saw its first part released on 30th September this year will have its second one released on 28th April 2023. Coincidentally, it's the same date when the south blockbuster Bahubali 2 was released.

Sharing a teaser tuned by AR Rahman, the makers of PS 2 revealed the details about this magnum opus.

Helmed by Lyca Productions, the teaser quoted, ‘The Cholas Are Back’. Shared on Twitter, the video was captioned, “Let’s get those swords in the air as we await the 28th of April 2023!” For the unversed, On 17 September 2022, Mani Ratnam in a press interaction confirmed that PS2 would be released in six to nine months after Ponniyin Selvan: I. Do you know not Aishwarya Rai Bachchan but Mani Ratnam wanted Rekha to play Nandini in Ponniyin Selvan?

Ratnam told Pinkvilla, “In those days, in the 80s when I was thinking of making this, her (Rekha’s) name did come to my mind. That’s what I was thinking at the time, but I never approached her.” In the same interview, Mani said that he wants his cast to be more excited than him.

“They make dates for the film, not for me. And if they’re available, they come, and that’s how I really like it to be. I want them to be invested in the story first, it’s not for me. And Nandini is completely different from what she has done before,” he said. For the unversed, PS 1 had an ensemble cast including Vikram, Aishwarya, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, R. Parthiban and Lal.

Talking about roping in Rajnikanth in the film, Mani said, “I can’t just bring in a superstar, I have to be honest to the story. So I told him (Rajinikanth) I will take a raincheck with him about that,” Mani Ratnam said. He also addressed a potential collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, to which he responded, “I should have a script ready for him, that is when I can go to him.”

For the unversed, Mani worked with SRK in Dil Chahta Hai and with Aishwarya in Iruvar and Raavan. The filmmaker also has KH234 in his kitty.
