Bollywood playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya recently voiced strong opinions about Punjabi singers Diljit Dosanjh and Karan Aujla, claiming their concerts focus more on dancing than singing. In an interview with Zoom, Abhijeet said that his shows are about pure music, where audiences sit and immerse themselves in the performance.
He remarked, "Even in my shows, people are seated to enjoy the performance and they clap for me. That is called a concert. Jinki baat ho rahi hai (Diljit, Karan), voh gaate nahi hai, sirf dance karte hai. Pehle superstars dance karte the mere gaanon pe, ab American stars bhi karte hai." (The ones being talked about¡ªDiljit, Karan¡ªthey don't sing, they only dance. Earlier, superstars danced to my songs, and now even American stars do.)
Abhijeet criticised their reach, saying, "Mere concerts mein auditorium full hote hai. Jinka naam liya (Diljit, Karan), unko bolo Kolhapur mein jaake shows kare. Koi ticket nahi kharidega." (My concerts have packed auditoriums. Ask these artists to perform in Kolhapur; no one will buy tickets.)
He added, "Mere ghar pe tickets pade rehte hai inke concerts ke. My kids distribute it among others. Mere bacche kabhi paise dalke ticket nahi lenge." (Tickets to their concerts are lying around in my house, and my kids give them away. My children would never spend money to watch them.)
He concluded with a witty comparison, saying, "I believe aaj agar koi trend kar raha hai toh kal koi aur karega. Abhi avocado chal raha hai, kal muli hoga. Agar aap mujhe avocado doge toh main nahi khaunga." (If someone is trending today, someone else will trend tomorrow. Right now, it's avocado; tomorrow, it'll be radishes. If you offer me avocado, I won't eat it.)
The Chalte Chalte singer is no stranger to controversy. Recently, he made headlines after expressing his displeasure when Dua Lipa performed the viral Levitating x Woh Ladki Jo mashup during a live show in India.?
The original Woh Ladki Jo was sung by Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who felt hurt that the credit was attributed to Shah Rukh Khan instead of him. He also criticised Dua Lipa for not recognising the original creator of the song.
In an interview with ANI, he said, "What was the need to say that it was his (Shah Rukh Khan's) song? Naam ye badal jayega, chehra ye badal jayega, awaz hi pehchaan hai... Dua Lipa doesn't even know whose song it is, she read out the script that was given to her."
