When will Bollywood take a stand -- everyone was asking. The nation has been burning and going through violence, and some the Bollywood biggies have astonishingly maintained their silence.
After violence broke out in the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University on Sunday wherein some masked men attacked students and teachers injuring at least 30 of them, Bollywood stars including Swara Bhasker, Dia Mirza, Rahul Bose among others took to streets to protest. They sang songs and recited poems to show solidarity with the students of JNU.?
Yesterday, Deepika Padukone who was in Delhi to promote her forthcoming movie Chhapaak visited JNU to support the students protest against violence inside the campus.
Everyone showered praises upon Deepika including celebs like Anurag Kashyap, Anubhav Sinha, Swara Bhasker, Lisa Ray and Vishal Dadlani among others.?
However, soon things turned around as #BoycottChhapaak became a trend on social media. 'Never ever watching a deepika film in theaters ever again, I swear," wrote a user. "Hey @deepikapadukone you just lost Lakhs fans today," wrote another.?
When she joined the protest Deepika said that she was angry that no action has been taken at such brutal violence.?
"I am very angry at what is happening but it is worse that no action is being taken," she was quoted as saying by Aaj Tak.
"What I wanted to say I said it two years ago when Padmaavat was released. What I am seeing today, it pains me. I hope it doesn¡¯t become the new normal. That anyone can say anything and they can get away with it. I fear and I'm sad. This is not the foundation of our country," she added.
