Reportedly, Karim Lala had met Indira Gandhi only once when he tagged along with a Padma Bhushan awardee and musician Harindranath Chattopadhyay.
Born as Abdul Karim Sher Khan in AfghanistanĄ¯s Kunar province, Lala was an underworld don who was infamous for his liquor dens, gambling and extortion rackets from '60s to early '80s.
