Ratna Pathak Shah is one of the most giftedactors. She fits in any and every role she performs. In fact, she has aced comedyroles as well and one of the classic examples is her iconic character Maya Sarabhai. However, Ratna¡¯s plan wasn't this, she eyed and longed for bigdramatic roles like Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil, but she never got a chance
In an interview with TOI, she revealed,?
¡°WhenI started my career in the early ¡¯80s, I would have done the kind of roleswritten for women--even the big dramatic roles that people like Shabana Azmi,Smita Patil did--but I didn¡¯t get the chance. I got 'Idhar Udhar', which I feelchanged me and my attitude towards my life and work. I was very lucky that, inthe long run, my so-called career panned out quite extraordinarily."
Well as they say there is someone who has plannedmuch better for you and one shouldn¡¯t lose hope on not getting what they havedesired.
Ratna, who has come a long way in her career, even spoke about how she didn¡¯t get interesting roles in the initial time ofher career,?
¡°I just didn't get any interesting work for years. People didn'tthink I was worthy of being cast! But in a way, it turned out to be good for mebecause then I ended up doing television. That's kind of the first paying job Ireally got. I did a TV show, titled 'Idhar Udhar', which aired in 1984-85, andwas a sitcom that was quite progressive. I thought that I would be doingdramatic parts--that's what one expects when they are young--and I got acomedy. I was completely unprepared but it was so exciting! We were alllearning on the job. It was a wonderful introduction to comedy; it was stillacting but in a completely different context.¡±
We are glad that Ratna didn¡¯t lose hope. Shefinally got what she deserved!
