Just two days ago, 100m record holder and winner of two Asian Games silver medals Dutee Chand revealed that she is in a same-sex relationship with a girl from her home town. The 23-year-old is thus the first Indian sportsperson to admit to being in a same-sex relationship.
Dutee Chand's confession sparked a lot of reactions, mostly positive. Everyone is lauding her courage to come out, without risking anything at all.

Two days after her confession, Hollywood's popular comedian and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres has reacted and expressed her opinion on the same. Sharing Dutee's story, she shared a post on Instagram where she wrote how proud she is of sprinter Dutee Chand.
Sharing an image of Chand kissing her medal that she won at the Asian Games 2018. DeGeneres wrote, "She¡¯s the 100m record holder and the first openly gay sportsperson in India. I guess she knows a thing or two about being first. I¡¯m so proud of her.(sic)"
Just to jog your memory a little, DeGeneres herself came out of the closet and revealed that she is homosexual, over two decades ago on national TV. She uses her voice for several important reasons and she has been one of the most fervent supporters of the LGBTQ community and their rights.
