While we have several plans and dreams in our lives, sometimes there comes a point where we take a detour and it ends up making a big difference in our lives. For second-year medical student Manushi Chillar, dropping out for a year to prepare for Miss India pageant was a big risk. However, taking a leap of faith she participated and won.?
Cut to 18th November 2017. India repeats history as, after seventeen years, Manushi Chillar wins Miss World 2017 and brings back the crown to India.

The 20-year-old, who is the 54th titleholder, represented the state of Haryana at the Femina Miss India 2017 beauty pageant. She had competed with 29 contestants from other Indian states.

And at the Miss World Pageant, the competition wasn't a cake walk. She had to compete with 108 contestants at a bumper event held at Sanya City Arena. Miss World 2016 winner Puerto Rico's Stephanie Del Valle crowned Manushi and her priceless smile made India proud and happy.?

1. Manushi Chhillar, who belongs to Haryana has proved herself, representing her state, that has the most disturbing male-female ratio in the country. She is a medical student of Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Sonepat, Haryana and dropped out and sacrificed a whole year from her education in between to prepare for her Miss India pageant. She aspires to become a cardiac surgeon.?
2. Manushi once revealed that she has grown up idolizing Reita Faria, the first Indian and Asian to win the Miss World crown.?
3. Before winning the Miss India and Miss World titles, Manushi has been a popular face in her college and school too. She has many titles to her kitty.?
4.? For her 'Beauty with a Purpose' project for Miss World 2017, she was a part of an initiative called 'Project Shakti', where she had spread awareness about menstrual hygiene. In this?initiative, she visited about 20 villages and made a difference to the lives of 5,000 women.
6. While many winners aim at entering the film industry, Manushi begs to differ. In one of her earlier interviews when asked if she had similar plans and wanted to use all her victories to enter Bollywood, she responded, "I disagree with the notion. I feel that Miss India is a stepping stone for anything you want to do, not just Bollywood.
7.?Manushi's father, Dr. Mitra Basu Chhillar is a scientist at DRDO and mother, Dr. Neelam Chhillar is the head of the department of Neurochemistry at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences.
