Hindi cinema's talented actress Shashikala Om Prakash Saigal, better known by her first name, is no more. The actress breathed her last on Sunday at her home in Mumbai. She was 88.
An official statement from the family is awaited. The cause of death has also not been revealed. The news broke out after?writer Kiran Kotrial posted about the same on his Facebook timeline.?
Born in a Maharashtrain family in Solapur, Shashikala starred in over 100 films. She was known for roles in films like Aarti (1962), which also starred Meena Kumari, Ashok Kumar, and Pradeep Kumar.?
She has also featured in films like Khubsoorat, Anupama and Ayi Milan Ke Bela.??
Shashikala worked with Shah Rukh Khan in movies like Badshah, in which she essayed the role of his mother. In Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, she made a special appearance. In Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar starrer Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, she essayed the role of Khan's grandmother.
Shashikala was bestowed with Padma Shri award for her contribution to cinema in 2007.?
As per reports, her funeral will be held in a church in Colaba. Shashikala is survived by two daughters.?
