The road to success is a rough patch for some and the worst for some. When life gives you a lemon, not everybody knows how to make lemonade and that was once the case with popular music director Ravi Basrur. You would be so surprised that this man who now charges crores to make music was once not able to pay even Rs 10 to eat.
Basrur comes from a family of four brothers and were poor sculptures in a village filled with music and bhajans. In conversation with Metro Saga, Ravi revealed to have worked as a sculptor, construction worker, goldsmith, silversmith, tailor, and also a house painter to make ends meet.
When asked about his educational qualification, Ravi shared, ¡°I failed Class 8, skipped Class 9, and wrote Class 10 exams anyway. I was never concerned about checking if I passed or not.¡± Ravi is now a programmer, singer and music director but let¡¯s trace how he entered the world of music initially.
It was once that someone during his local performance made big promises to him and said that they¡¯ll help him play at a big pub. The struggler Ravi quit all his day jobs, picked up his instrument and reached the said spot only to learn that there was a police raid at the pub and the venue was shut.
¡°I was shattered. There was no job, no accommodation, and I couldn¡¯t even go back to my previous job. I managed to reach the railway station in Thane and learned that there had been a bomb blast that day. The police pulled me up because I looked so ragged. They broke my guitar and tabla to check if there was a bomb but left my keyboard," he shared.
Upon returning, Basrur failed to find a job and the responsibility of running his family made him consider selling out his kidney. He even reached out to a Mangalore hospital in order to plan his kidney sale. Luckily, Ravi got scared before entering the OT and escaped the hospital.
Ravi then restarted doing odd jobs and paid Rs 3 per day to a public toilet guard to let him stay there. In the same interview, Ravi revealed that on odd days he couldn¡¯t even arrange for a meal worth just Rs 10 for a day and had to rely on meals served in temples. Later, the days started turning bright for him as he got a keyboard with a friend¡¯s help and a Rs 15000 job at a radio station.
Since then there was no looking back for him and Ravi earned his first movie break with Arjun Janya. Basrur then worked on 64 movies until his breakthrough stint in Ugramm. That was followed by his stint in the K.G.F series, and then now his recently released Salman Khan's Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
