Comedian Munawar Faruqui became a controversial figure in the country ever since he threw himself in the pool of religious jokes that didn¡¯t go down well with a lot of people. Munawar was even thrown into jail for 37 days because of his thoughts which created a sensitive outrage in the public eye.
In an interview with ETimes, Munawar revealed, ¡°When I was going inside, that moment was when I was mentally disturbed and I felt everything around me. I was unable to think what was happening. I was feeling all emotions at once, I was restless. Jail is the hell where you go alive. I wouldn't even want to send my arch-enemy to this hell.¡±
Munawar recalled how a young boy who murdered someone was telling the comedian that if he didn¡¯t kill the man, the boy would have been killed in return.
Faruqui shared, ¡°That boy once told me, 'I wish I would have let him kill me rather than coming to jail.' He felt this jail was the living hell that he was experiencing before death. They didn't have any aggression. There were fights but the fear was that you would get beaten. I also got beaten. It is the jail's 'Prashad', it's not allowed but they beat you for random reasons.¡±
But do you know Munawar¡¯s background was never of a rich guy? Faruqui recalled how in 2020 when his father passed away, he had to take money from people for his last rites. He shared, ¡°I had to take my father's mortal remains to my village in an ambulance for which I borrowed Rs 30,000 from someone for the last rites.¡±
The stand-up artist lost his mother soon after. Revisiting the grief, Munawar shares, ¡°I still feel the same pain from the past 16 years of my mother's demise. It still hits me and in fact, the pain keeps increasing with each passing day. I cannot say that one year was difficult for me, all these years have been difficult for me and it keeps increasing and I want them with me but they are not there. There is no solution to losing a mother.¡±
