On the same day when the creator of actress Rashmika Mandanna's deepfake video was arrested, Nora Fatehi spotted her own AI-generated fake video used by a brand as an advertisement. Taking to her Instagram Stories, she wrote, "Shocked!! This is not me!"?
The video is an advertisement for a retail clothing company's (lulumelon.in) end-of-season sale. While the ad seems real on Instagram, it is actually a part of "scam or not scam" campagin by to address online financial fraud. If you visit the website?lulumelon.in, it pops up the same ad featuring the Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi. However, in this one, she transforms into Vigil Aunty, portrayed by actress and theater artist Anuradha Menon known for her character Lola Kutty on Channel V.
The purpose of the advertisement is to inform individuals about misleading practices and the disparities between the apparent authenticity presented in ads and the true nature of it. It highlights the importance of exercising caution when doing online transactions.
Incidentally, Nora's post came on the same day when the creator of Rashmika Mandanna's deepfake video was arrested.?The 24-year-old BTech graduate Eemani Naveen is from Andhra Pradesh. He allegedly created the deepfake video to Rincrease the number of followers of the actress' fanpage he ran on social media.
Reacting to this, the Animal actress took to X (formerly called Twitter) to write, "Expressing my heartfelt gratitude to @DCP_IFSO ?? Thank you for apprehending those responsible. Feeling truly grateful for the community that embraces me with love, support and shields me. ?? Girls and boys - if your image is used or morphed anywhere without your consent. It is wrong!And I hope this is a reminder that you are surrounded by people who will support you and action will be taken!"
In the deepfake video, Rashmika's face was imposed on a video of British influencer Zara Patel.
