On Friday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) appointed actor R. Madhavan as President of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society's governing council chairman. The former President, director Shekhar Kapur, ended his tenure on March 3, 2023.
"Mr. R. Madhvan has been appointed the President of the FTII Society and Chairman of the Governing Council. The decision has been formally conveyed to us by the Ministry," FTII Registrar Sayyid Rabeehashmi said.
The FTII chairman leads the FTII Society and includes 12 nominees. Among them, eight are nominated as 'Persons of Eminence,' and the remaining four are FTII alumni.?
Typically, the Ministry selects these members when appointing the institute chairman, but there was a departure from this tradition when Anupam Kher was established in October 2017.
Madhavan's appointment by the Ministry follows a similar pattern, where the other nominated members have yet to be appointed. Once 24 members, including 12 ex-officio members, are in place, it leads to establishing a governing council, an academic council, and a standing finance committee.
R. Madhavan, celebrated for his roles in blockbuster movies such as "3 Idiots," "Tanu Weds Manu," and "Rang De Basanti," has recently ventured into directing with "Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.
This film received acclaim and earned the prestigious Best Feature Film Award at the 69th National Awards, announced just last week.
Madhavan wore multiple hats for this project, acting, co-writing, and directing, marking a significant milestone in his career. His journey in the world of Indian cinema continues to be a remarkable and evolving one, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating his future endeavors.
