Twenty-seven years later, the scene has gained iconic status because of memes. It¡¯s strange because, at the time when the film had been released, Facebook and Twitter were nowhere close to their inception, and memes weren¡¯t even a part of our vocabulary.?
Renuka Shahane in an exclusive chat with Indiatimes said that she enjoys watching these memes because they are the ultimate form of flattery.?
¡°It is actually delightful to see those memes. Memes are made about memorable things. If this scene and character is memorable, I am definitely happy about it,¡± she says.?
But what's the real story behind the cult scene??
Revealing the backstory, she added, ¡°People actually don¡¯t know that the staircase was made of sponge, so I don¡¯t get hurt at all. Sooraj Barjataya is very particular about all this. He wouldn¡¯t let anyone get hurt. In fact, it became more tough for me because I had to act like I am hurt and in pain,¡± she laughs off.?
? As Hum Aapke Hain Koun has completed 27 years of the release today, Renuka Shahane has shared a heartfelt note on social media remembering the iconic film that was a game-changer for her career. Taking to Twitter, she wrote, "Thank you to Soorajji and the entire @rajshri team for HAHK 27 years and still going strong. A huge thank you to the audience, the fans of this film for loving it and showering it with pure love then and now #trueblessing".?

Among other actors in Bollywood, Shahane remains relevant even today. She started her career when the only channel people watched on TV was Doordarshan. Her broad smile would charm the audience every time she appeared on the screen.?
When she took breaks from the screen, she would be active on social media, talking about issues concerning the nation. Unlike her contemporaries, she has always taken a stand for what she feels is right. She has called out Salman Khan¡¯s acquittal, she also dissed Bhaijaan¡¯s rape remark. She came forward to diss Alok Nath¡¯s actions when #MeToo gained momentum.?
It takes immense courage to call out the people you have worked with, especially in an industry that operates on networking. Shahane says she has never been afraid to lose work, and she never wanted to be associated with the so-called camps in Bollywood.?
"There¡¯s no point in living in fear." When asked if there is a fear of losing work, she says, "I have never experienced that. That is not how I operate. I have never been short of work. The times when I didn¡¯t work is because I didn¡¯t want to. I was busy with something else. But offers have always come my way."
She thinks being associated with a particular group or a camp restricts her opportunities. "I never wanted that to happen. I cannot be a part of a camp, because then I would be losing other opportunities."
Be it shedding light on the issues like malnutrition or condemning rape issues in the nation; be it calling out her colleagues like Suchitra Krishnamoorthi for comparing sex workers to criminals or seeking justice for Sushant Singh Rajput, Shahane has always expressed her opinions unabashedly, even if that invites trolling.?
"You won't believe once I got trolled for posting a picture of sunrise," she said and added, "I mean, I did nothing there. It's just nature. That is how it is," she says and explains that she has accepted the fact that one gets trolled for anything and everything on social media.?
¡°If things go out of control, I officially lodge a complaint. I have filed three FIRs against people who trolled me.¡±
When asked if any action was taken, she says, ¡°Yes, in one of the cases, the action was taken. The two other cases remain unsolved till date. However, in all three cases, the accounts of these people were suspended, but the thing with these trolls is that they come back with a new account. There is no end to this, but why should I live in fear.¡±
She says she is proud of Richa Chadha for taking a stand for her own self and dragging the matter to the court of law and getting an apology in return.?
¡°If you are right, you need not be scared. I really admire Richa Chadha. She got her apology. So, when you are standing with the truth, you should never be scared.¡±?
