Robert Downey Jr. is one of the most loved and bankable actors in Hollywood. But the name and fame that he has now, didn't come easy. His ardent fans already know that he has battled drug addiction quite early on in his life. He was exposed to marijuana at the age of six. He was an alcoholic too. He was arrested multiple times for drug offenses and he spent quite a lot of time in jail too.
But was his journey in Hollywood easy? Apparently not. Robert Downey Jr. has had his own share of ups and downs too, and he recently bared his heart out on the same in an interview with Parade.
It was in 2008 that Iron Man made his presence felt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From there, the journey which involved 23 movies began and culminated after Avengers: Endgame released last year. Iron Man will not be revived again, or will it be? Robert Downey Jr says he doesn't know either.?
"The war for me is over. I personally have alighted to greener pastures," he admitted.
Furthermore, emphasizing on how it was to play the superhero, he said that in his career so far, he has done two roles for which he went into "a feverish-almost-like-a-waking dream in prep for something."
One of them was Charlie Chaplin in Chaplin (1992), for which he was nominated for the Oscars, and the other one was Iron Man, of course.?
"It¨s not so much that I related to him, as much as I just presumed that it was my destiny to build this character around all of my experiences," the 54-year-old actor shared.
Talking about the days when he was 17 and making $140 a week performing at the Geva Theatre in Rochester, New York, he said, "I¨m riding around on a 10-speed bike!it was like a $107 Panasonic, I think, and I could afford it ¨cause it was bottom-tier. And I was listening on a Walkman to Phil Collins, just going, like, `Man, I¨m really making something of my life here!"?
Robert Downey Jr. will next be seen in the role of Dr. Dolittle. He remembers there was a time when he took up random jobs to survive and would also audition for roles side by side. "I had plenty of rejection, ̄ he said, and insisted being raised in the city ^makes you super-resilient. ̄?
