Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber dated each other on-and-off between 2011 and 2018. Soon after their final break-up, Justin sent shockwaves across his fans as his closeness with Hailey Baldwin came under the spotlight. Soon after, he tied the knot with her as well.
While Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber were dating, they were on and off so many times that it was kind of hard to keep a track of their relationship status. Fans secretly wanted Jelena to have a happily ever after.?
But did you know it was such a toxic relationship for Gomez, so much so, she now feels she was sort of emotionally abused? She feels she is the strongest now that she is out of that relationship.?
"I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse (during the relationship)," she told NPR in an interview recently where she bared her heart out on the relationship.
When asked if she was referring to emotional abuse, she said, "Yes, and I think that it's something that ¡ª I had to find a way to understand it as an adult."
"As much as I definitely don't want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I've ever felt and I've found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible," she added.
She also said that her single Lose You To Love Me was inspired by her on-and-off relation with Bieber. "I'm very proud of (the song). I felt I didn't get a respectful closure [in the relationship], and I had accepted that, but I know I needed some way to just say a few things that I wish I had said. It's not a hateful song; it's a song that is saying ¡ª I had something beautiful and I would never deny that it wasn't that. It was very difficult and I'm happy it's over."
Bieber had admitted in September 2019 of "abusing all of my relationships", "doing pretty heavy drugs" and being "disrespectful to women".
