Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj 'Insulted' On KBC, Sony TV Apologises After #BoycottKBC Trends

People on social media were outraged and so they protested against Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati after Maratha warrior ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was simply referred to as Shivaji in a question on the show.

It happened in the episode that was aired yesterday that the host of the show Amitabh Bachchan asked a historical question to the contestant on the hot seat. ‘Which of these rulers was the contemporary of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb?’ he asked. The options given were A) Maharana pratap, B) Rana Sanga, C) Maharaja Ranjit Singh, D) Shivaji.

Many of the viewers of the 11^th season of the Kaun Banega Crorepati took to Twitter to express their anger. They criticised Amitabh Bachchan for referring to Mughal ruler as ‘Samrat’ and Maratha Ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by his name ‘Shivaji’.

People then demanded an apology from Amitabh Bachchan for showing disrespect towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Soon, Sony TV responded to it and apologised. The channel ran a ticker which read, “There was an inaccurate reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during yesterday's episode, due to inadvertence. We deeply regret the same."

Maharashtra BJP MLA Nitesh Rane had also demanded an apology. On Twitter, he wrote that Sony TV’s Kaun Banega Crorepati has insulted Shivaji Maharaj by just referring to him in first person singular form. He said they should released the apology at the earliest. He also added that if the apology is delayed, KBC will not have the lifeline to continue further.

Not only that, Shri Rajput Karni Sena had also submitted a letter to Bangur Nagar Police Station of Mumbai seeking an apology from the show.

On the other hand, Amitabh Bachchan has completed 50 glorious years in Hindi cinema recently. Giving a health update to his fans, he said that the doctors have advised him cut back on work.
