When Shahid Kapoor steps into the shoes of an intense, brooding cop, expectations hit the roof. But did Deva live up to the hype? Well, the box office numbers tell a different story. Rosshan Andrrews¡¯ Bollywood directorial debut made an underwhelming Rs. 5 crore on its opening day, struggling to match the energy it promised in its action-packed promos. Compared to Shahid¡¯s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, which debuted at Rs. 6.7 crore, Deva stumbled right out of the gate.
Box Office India reports suggest that Deva relied heavily on Maharashtra for its collections, but the turnout in Mumbai and Pune didn¡¯t quite match the film¡¯s adrenaline rush. It also struggled in key regions like NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Central India, further dampening its box office potential. Looks like even Shahid¡¯s intense cop vibes couldn¡¯t pull the crowd out of their weekday blues.
On the brighter side, Deva did outshine Akshay Kumar¡¯s Sky Force, which barely managed Rs. 2.75 crore on day one. However, that¡¯s hardly a flex when competing against big-budget powerhouses like Game Changer and Emergency, both of which continue to dominate conversations. With Deva missing Shahid¡¯s top 10 biggest openers list, ranking just behind Haider, the movie has a long way to go before being labeled a hit.
With an opening occupancy rate of just 5.87% in the morning, 9.18% in the afternoon, and 9.77% in the evening, Deva clearly didn¡¯t set the box office on fire. But hey, there¡¯s still hope! If word-of-mouth does its magic and Shahid¡¯s die-hard fans show up, the weekend could give Deva the boost it desperately needs. Until then, the question remains¡ªdid Deva ace the game or is it already fumbling?
