Most actors try to be diplomatically correct with their opinions but then there¡¯s one who stands out from the rest, like no other. It¡¯s none other than Batman Robert Pattinson.?
The man has never shied away from expressing his disdain over his past career choices. R Patz, as he¡¯s fondly called, rose to fame after he played the sparkly vampire in the movie adaptations of author Stephenie Meyer¡¯s Twilight series. He became a big name and you would think that he would only have fond memories from the franchise, right? WRONG!?
Robert Pattinson has always shared his two cents on it, in a no-holds-barred way and most fans know he truly hates the series. He despises the fact that he acted in it and more than that, he finds it unbelievable that people actually liked it.?
The man makes no effort to hide his disgust and has gone on record to show that he is done being grateful for it.
While it remains to be seen how R Patz will actually responds to it, let¡¯s take a look at 13 times he trolled his own film and let it slip that how he wished he wasn¡¯t a part of the Twilight series:
The behind-the-scenes commentary on Twilight DVD, the director Catherine Hadwicke revealed that R Patz had left the premiere screening of the film after a point.
As his character Edward gazed into Bella¡¯s eyes, Pattinson told Hardwicke, ¡°I think this is where I can¡¯t handle it anymore. In the premiere.¡±
¡°Is this where you ran out of theatre?¡± she asked him.
¡°Yeah,¡± said Pattinson.
¡°That¡¯s what your mom told me,¡± she continued. ¡°You just ran out.¡±
Can you blame him?In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2011, he had quipped on how the crazy behaviour of fans didn¡¯t make any sense. He had said, ¡°It does have an angle which is attached to something quite primal in girls. I guess people want it to define them, like, ¡®I¡¯m a Twilight fan.¡¯ That¡¯s crazy to me. I think people really just like being part of a crowd. There¡¯s something just tremendously exciting about hyping yourself up to that level.¡±
Interestingly, our man Edward Cullen actually gave the book a try, although we seriously doubt if he made it through the end, he infamously said in an interview:
¡°When I read it, it felt like a book that shouldn¡¯t have been published.¡±
In an interview with Variety, he even question the premise of the book saying,?
¡°It¡¯s a weird story, ¡®Twilight.¡¯ It¡¯s not just like ¨C it¡¯s strange how people responded a lot to it. I guess the books are very romantic, but at the same time, it¡¯s not like ¡®The Notebook¡¯ romantic. ¡®The Notebook¡¯ is very sweet and heartbreaking, but ¡®Twilight¡¯ is about this guy, and he finds the one girl he wants to be with, and he also wants to eat her. I mean, not eat her, but drink her blood or whatever. It¡¯s not that other people are telling them they can¡¯t be together, it¡¯s his own body telling him that.¡±?
In 2017, Pattinson spoke to W Magazine about the ludicrous plot holes, he said,?
¡°If it hadn¡¯t been so successful, I think people would have thought it was really weird. It¡¯s a really weird story. But I think once it becomes mainstream, it¡¯s difficult for people to see how strange the story is.¡±
In reference to the fourth and fifth film¡¯s plotlines, he said, ¡°It¡¯s nuts. I had to give her a cesarean by chewing through a placenta. I don¡¯t know the medical¡ªhow it works. But there was definitely chewing through something. No, it¡¯s wild. Once you got it in your head you¡¯re like, Oh, this is just the thing for little girls. And then, like, it¡¯s kind of¡ªit¡¯s difficult to get past.¡±
In a 2011 interview with Vanity Fair, he had said, ¡°[But] being in such a specific pigeonhole right now, it¡¯s very strange. Having a persona people recognize, it¡¯s the thing that probably gets you paid the most¡ªbut it¡¯s also the thing that virtually every actor in the world doesn¡¯t want. Cause, like, no one would believe me if I wanted to play something ultra-realistic, like, a gangster or something."
Thankfully, this fear of his didn't come to be true as he is now all set to come on the silver screen as Batman.Speaking to Howard Stern in 2017, Pattinson revealed his agents were quite worried that he might get himself fired from the franchise. So much so, they had to fly down to the shoot location to put some sense into him. Apparently, he was playing the role of Edward as ¡®really intense¡¯ which rubbed the producers the wrong way. They thought he was too serious. To mend this, they even handed him a highlighted copy of the book with every instance of his character smiling.
However, R Patz was relentless. Rumour has it that he returned the copy after highlighting every instance of his character frowning. You have to give it to him for being so gutsy!?
He explained, ¡°I thought I was pretty safe. [My agents] flew up and were like, ¡®You have to do the opposite of what you¡¯re doing now or you¡¯re going to get fired today.¡±
Pattinson eventually caved (though some ¡°compromise was made¡±) and said, ¡°I literally came back after lunch and was like ¡®Hi! I wanna keep my job!¡¯¡±.
In an interview, he was asked if his fans know the movies better than him, to which he had said,?
¡°Definitely. I¡¯m struggling with character names ¨C my own character name.¡±?
Well, this could be sarcasm but still it would be fun to watch him do an online Twilight quiz, don't you think??
In an interview with Variety he talked about how it felt like ¡°not a day had passed¡± since filming the Twilight films, saying: ¡°I think I stopped mentally progressing around the time when I started doing those movies.¡± #Burn
In a candid interview with Access Hollywood, Pattinson had a pained expression on his face when he asked if his experience on the film had turned out to be what he wanted. When he was further asked if he was happy with the remuneration that he got, he instantly said, ¡°Could¡¯ve been better.¡±
If you thought his approach towards the movie and the makers was ruthless, the Harry Potter actor did not even spare the author of the series Stephenie Myer. He went on record to say that she was completely mad and that she thought she was Bella in real life.
In an interview with E! News, he said,?
¡°It was like reading her sexual fantasy, especially when she said it was based on a dream and it was like, ¡®Oh I¡¯ve had this dream about this really sexy guy,¡¯ and she just writes this book about it¡±.
He continued, ¡°Like some things about Edward are so specific, I was just convinced, like, ¡®This woman is mad. She¡¯s completely mad and she¡¯s in love with her own fictional creation.¡¯ And sometimes you would feel uncomfortable reading this thing.¡±
Pattinson never agreed with his onscreen character Edward Cullen. He questioned a 108-year-old vampire¡¯s interest in a ¡°kid¡±. He called it an unhealthy fascination.
He told OK Magazine, ¡°If Edward was a non-fictional character and you met him in reality, he¡¯s one of those guys that would be an axe murderer.¡±
For the uninitiated, R Patz fell in love with his onscreen love interest Bella played by Kristen Stewart while filming the series. Toward the last installment, a big scandal took place when Stewart admitted to cheating on him with her movie Snow White And The Huntsman director publicly.?
In an interview with WOIO, Pattinson was asked if he had taken any souvenirs from the sets of the last film Breaking Dawn Part 2 to remember the series by, he simply responded, ¡°My Dignity¡±. Ouch!
He told Moviefone: ¡°I think I am a judgmental and cynical person who would just mindlessly hate it without having seen anything; I just think I¡¯m a bad person. There¡¯s nothing you can do about it. That¡¯s the way it is. But it is weird being part of that, kind of representing something you don¡¯t particularly like¡±.
If you feel that he does hate it despite starring in it, then you are not alone!
It remains to be seen if the series will get the same amount of love from the fans or not but something tells me that Robert Pattinson wouldn't be so interested in even watching forget associating with it.
