Film producer Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with a form of bone marrow cancer, multiple media reports confirmed on Tuesday.?The disgraced Hollywood mogul, whose alleged sexual conduct fuelled the #MeToo movement, is currently undergoing treatment in a New York prison. In 2020, Weinstein was found guilty of two felony sex crimes in the New York State Supreme Court. Last month, he was indicted on a new sex crime charge.?
Weinstein is currently undergoing treatment for CML, a type of bone marrow cancer, while in prison at Rikers Island in New York, according to an NBC report. In a statement on Monday night, Weinstein's legal healthcare representative, Craig Rothfeld, said, "Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein's privacy, we will offer no further comment."
Harvey Weinstein, 72, has been battling several health issues. Earlier this year in July, he was brought to an NYC hospital after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia in both lungs. His other health issues include diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, and fluid in his heart and lungs. He was also transferred to the hospital in September for heart surgery. Weinstein had also faced a COVID-19 scare in 2020.?
Earlier this year, an appeals court overturned Weinstein¡¯s 2020 conviction, which is credited with igniting the #MeToo movement. He is set to be retried in New York on November 12; however, Manhattan prosecutors have sought to consolidate all the charges against him, including the fresh indictment, into one trial¡ªa move to which his legal team has strongly objected.?
Despite the court overturning the judgement in the 2020 case in which he was sentenced to 23 years in prison, Harvey can still not walk as a free man. The film producer faces two other criminal counts from an earlier indictment in which he also pleaded not guilty. His legal team is appealing the remaining conviction.?
