The Los Angeles police have stepped up their presence on Sunday night in anticipation of protests against the Israel-Hamas war, in an effort to keep the Oscars ceremony orderly.?
¡°It¡¯s going to be our goal to ensure that the Academy Awards is successful, that guests can arrive safely and get into the venue. But, also, we are going to try very hard to make contact with the groups as they show up, and lay out the expectation that we as the police are here to support your First Amendment constitutional rights," said Commander Randy Goddard. ¡°We¡¯re hopefully going to find that middle ground. My objective is to get the guests safely inside that venue,¡± the commander said as per HT.
Every year, the Los Angeles-based Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences submits nominations and casts votes in over 20 categories, including best picture, best actor, and best actress.?The Oscars are the highest honor in the calendar of the awards season, while other film awards ceremonies like the Golden Globes and the Baftas garner a lot of attention.
According to the police, the Academy has installed checkpoints, fences, fencing, and nearly 2,000 private security officers at the Dolby Theater.
