Nayanthara Vs Dhanush: One of South¡¯s biggest lady superstars has decided to speak up against an actor and not just the internet but even several celebrities have rallied behind her. Nayanthara recently penned an open letter addressing Dhanush and slammed him for sending her Rs 10 crore notice after she used a 3-second clip (recorded on her phone) from a film that was produced by the actor. While this row is intensifying largely, here¡¯s a look back at some more controversies of Dhanush.
A documentary based on the actress¡¯ life titled ¡®Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale¡¯ is releasing on November 18th. The actress had approached Dhanush for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for using the songs and BTS visuals of a film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan produced by him. It was during the filming of this Tamil movie only when Nayanthara fell in love with her now-husband Vignesh Shivan.
Dhanush didn¡¯t give her NOC after multiple attempts and after two years Netflix had to re-edit the entire documentary to chop off everything around Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. However, a 3-second clip recorded on the actress¡¯ phone found a place in the docu-film¡¯s trailer. Dhanush giving it no time sent the actress a Rs 10 crore notice alleging damage to his IP. This triggered Nayan to share an open letter slamming his ¡®so-called¡¯ public image that you can read here:-
In 2016, a track named Beep Song from the film Vada Chennai composed by Anirudh Ravichander became embroiled in a public fallout. The song was meant to be a fun, cheeky number, but its explicit lyrics, including references to profanity and sexual references, sparked backlash from various sections of society.
The controversy intensified when Dhanush, the producer of the film, and Anirudh, who had a long-standing professional and personal friendship, reportedly had a fallout over the song's content and its release. It was speculated that Dhanush was not happy with the track's explicit nature, especially since it was released without his prior consent. The duo never spoke publicly about the incident but it allegedly created a temporary strain in their relationship.?
During the Jallikattu protests in 2017, the actor was accused of supporting PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), an organization that had been campaigning against the traditional bull-taming sport, which is central to the Tamil festival of Jallikattu. The protests erupted across Tamil Nadu in January 2017, with people voicing their strong opposition to a Supreme Court ban on the practice, which they saw as an integral part of their cultural identity.
Dhanush, who had been previously associated with PETA through his support for animal rights, faced massive backlash from protestors and fans who were fiercely in favour of Jallikattu. Some accused him of indirectly aligning with PETA's anti-Jallikattu stance mostly because the organization had been vocal about its opposition to the practice on animal cruelty grounds. However, Dhanush clarified his position that he respects the Tamil culture and the tradition of Jallikattu.
In May 2017, Tamil singer Suchitra Karthik Kumar made shocking and controversial allegations on her Twitter account while accusing Dhanush and Anirudh Ravichander of sexual abuse. The accusations were part of a series of unsubstantiated and explicit claims she made against several figures in the Tamil film industry, which she posted in a series of tweets.
Dhanush responded by calling the claims "baseless" and "untrue," asserting that he had never met Suchitra in a manner that would warrant any such accusations. Suchitra, however, played too dirty and released private and explicit photos of Dhanush with actress Trisha that caused massive damage to both actors¡¯ images.
The Dhanush-Simbu fight is one of the most talked-about feuds in Tamil cinema, and it dates back to 2013. The rift started when during a press interview, Simbu made a controversial statement, mocking Dhanush's career and his success with the song Why This Kolaveri Di which had become a massive hit. Simbu reportedly made fun of Dhanush's popularity and claimed that the song's success was a fluke.
This public jibe sparked tension between the two, as both were popular leading actors at the time. Dhanush didn¡¯t react at that time but when Simbu, in another public interaction again made further disparaging comments about Dhanush, Dhanush took to social media and expressed his anger. There were also rumours that the matter got intense, also because?Simbu and Dhanush¡¯s ex-wife Aishwarya Rajnikanth had been close friends since school and were briefly in love too.
