'A Part Of Me Wanted Papa To Finish The Film', Ranbir Kapoor On Rishi Kapoor's Sharmaji Namkeen

Rishi Kapoor's swan song, Sharmaji Namkeen released on OTT yesterday and an emotional wave is running through the industry after watching the late actor perform his final act. Rishi Kapoor breathed his last on April 30, 2020, and the shoot of the film was left incomplete.?

Paresh Rawal then took up the role and helped the team finish the film. While talking about Sharmaji Namkeen recently, Ranbir thanked Paresh Rawal for taking up the challenge. The actor also expressed that deep down, he always wished that his father could complete the film.

Ranbir said, "I am extremely grateful that an actor of Mr Paresh Rawal's caliber had stepped in and agreed to finish this film. I, being, an extremely big admirer of my father's work and seen the kind of passion and excitement he had for this character; perhaps that's why there is a part of me which always wanted that I hope he had finished this film."

Further talking about how exciting it was to see the same character being played out by two different actors, Ranbir said, "The experience to see two different actors with two different styles, two different great actors performing the same character was such a refreshing and entertaining take on moviemaking. I think the audience won't get confused because after two minutes you won't even release that two different personalities are performing the same character."

Before the release of the film, Ranbir, in a video message, had revealed how the team tried completing the film with him taking up his father's role by donning prosthetics. However, things didn't workout. It was then that Paresh Rawal stepped into the role.?

"We all thought that the film wouldn't be completed and it was a very tough time. It was then that?Mr Paresh Rawal?stepped in and helped us complete the film. It was very generous of him to take up this challenge because one character being played by two different actors is extremely rare in the film world," he had said.?

The film's story revolves around a retired 58-year-old man named Brij Gopal Sharma, who begins a side business to keep himself busy. What results is a hilarious, heartwarming ride that serves a lot of sweetness, with a little 'namkeen'.?
