Piracy is still a major problem for the film industry. With the rise of piracy, film producers are finding it increasingly difficult to make a profit. Piracy appears to have hit big-budget films like RRR and KGF: Chapter 2 before their expected OTT debuts.
Both films were huge successes, with director Rajamouli's RRR becoming a worldwide success and grossing Rs 1115 crores at the box office, while Manobala Vijayabalan's KGF: Chapter 2 Hindi grossed more than 400 crores. This is why fans are looking forward to the RRR and KGF 2 OTT release dates.
However, according to social media sources, both?KGF: Chapter 2 and RRR HD prints have leaked on the internet. And if that's the case, a portion of the audience may be watching pirated prints, reducing viewership once these films arrive on their OTT streaming partners.ZEE5 is known to have the rights to broadcast RRR in South languages, whereas Netflix has the rights to broadcast in Hindi. Amazon Prime Video owns the distribution rights to KGF 2, and they may have spent a lot of money on these OTT giants.
Both KGF 2 and RRR are speculated to be arriving on OTT in May. There has been no announcement about the release date for this feature. But much before that, these fake piracy copies might dampen the buzz of the OTT releases of these films. It remains to be seen how both these films will fare once they do hit the streaming platforms.?
In the interim, the need of the hour is to stop the illegal leaking of films as it affects business in a major way.
