Do you remember the drama in 2021 when Shah Rukh Khan's son, Aryan Khan, was arrested in a drugs case? At the time, Sameer Wankhede, the former zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), who undertook the arrest faced significant backlash from SRK's fans. Later, fans had speculated that a particular "baap beta" dialogue in SRK's September 2023 film Jawan was aimed at Wankhede. Now the former NCB officer has responded to it directly in a podcast, calling it "cheap."
During an appearance on The Gaurav Thakur Show podcast, Sameer Wankhede shared his thoughts on the alleged connection between Shah Rukh Khan's dialogue in Jawan and his controversial actions in the Aryan Khan case.?
The dialogue in question is a powerful line in Jawan, where Shah Rukh Khan's character says, "Bete ko haath lagane se pehle baap se baat kar."
Fans of the superstar speculated that it was a subtle dig at Wankhede, who had arrested Aryan Khan in 2021.
"I don't watch much movies honestly. And this dialogue that you mentioned, the words used in it like 'baap', 'beta'... I find these very cheap and third-rated words," he remarked.
"In Indian culture, we do not use these words. These are roadside dialogues and I cannot be expected to go down to that level and respond to them," Wankhede continued.?
He avoided commenting further on Shah Rukh Khan or Aryan Khan, stating, "I don't want to name anyone and make them famous."
Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, was arrested in connection with a drugs case in October 2021. He was allegedly involved in a drug bust on a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai, which was conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).?
The NCB arrested Aryan Khan along with several others, accusing them of possessing, consuming, and distributing drugs.
Aryan Khan was arrested on October 3, 2021, and he was denied bail multiple times by the sessions court.?
After spending around three weeks in jail, he was granted bail on October 28, 2021, by the Bombay High Court.?
The court granted him bail with certain conditions, including not being allowed to leave the country without permission and appearing before the NCB as required.
His arrest and subsequent release attracted widespread media attention and public discussions, with many coming to his defense, stating that there was no evidence of Aryan Khan directly consuming or possessing drugs.
In 2023, the CBI registered a corruption case against Wankhede and four others for conspiring to extort Rs 25 crore from the family of one those onboard the cruise ship in exchange for not booking him.
Meanwhile, Aryan Khan is gearing up to make his Bollywood debut as a director with a project scheduled to premiere on Netflix in 2025.
