The city of Sumy in Ukraine has been the focus point for India for the last couple of days as around 700 students were stranded there amidst the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The government is doing its best to evacuate its citizens safely out of the war zone but every time there's a report focusing on the plight of students stuck in the country, our heart goes out to them.?
Sonam Kapoor recently reacted to a news report that revealed Indian students were waiting to be evacuated from the city of Sumy.?
"India has said that it is ¡°deeply concerned¡± that despite its repeated urgings to both Russia and Ukraine, the safe corridor for Indian students stranded in the eastern Ukrainian city of Sumy did not materialise. Over 700 Indian students in Sumy are still waiting to be evacuated," the report said.?
She wrote,?¡°Indians are facing racism from both sides of the fight. It's disgusting the way coloured people have been treated. At least that's what the stories coming out in the news are reiterating.¡±
However, it has now been confirmed that the aforementioned students are now out of the city of Sumy and will be heading to Poltova.?MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted that the students will board trains to Western Ukraine from Poltova. He wrote, "Happy to inform that we have been able to move out all Indian students from Sumy.They are currently en route to Poltava, from where they will board trains to western Ukraine. Flights under #OperationGanga are being prepared to bring them home."?
The students had shared several videos on Twitter stating that they were fast running out of food and water in the biting cold.?In some of the videos, they were also seen?collecting and melting snow to drink water. This had led to a number of reactions by celebrities and other Twitter users, highlighting the plight of the students stranded in the war-hit zone.?
