Haryana holidays: In a significant move, the Haryana government has announced a paid holiday on February 5, 2025, for all government offices, educational institutions, boards, and corporations. This decision has been taken to facilitate employees who are registered voters of Delhi so they can participate in the upcoming Delhi Election 2025.
The Haryana government's decision ensures that all state government employees, who are residents of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, will have the opportunity to cast their votes without work-related constraints. The holiday applies to public sector offices, academic institutions, factories, shops, and private establishments across Haryana.
The announcement follows legal provisions under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, and Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (amended in 1996). These laws mandate that registered voters should be allowed to exercise their democratic rights without facing work-related challenges.
"This provision, under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, and Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (amended in 1996), applies to employees who are registered voters of NCT of Delhi, allowing them to cast their vote in the general election,§ said the official statement as reported by PTI.
According to the official statement, employees working in Haryana's factories, private companies, and commercial establishments, who are also registered voters of Delhi, are entitled to a paid holiday on February 5, 2025, enabling them to participate in the Delhi Assembly Election.
The Delhi Election 2025 is scheduled for February 5, where voters will elect representatives for 70 assembly constituencies. The vote-counting process will take place on February 8, 2025, and the results will determine the next government in Delhi.
By declaring a paid holiday, the Haryana government aims to ensure maximum voter participation in the Delhi Assembly polls. This initiative highlights the importance of voting rights and encourages citizens to fulfil their civic duty.
With the upcoming Delhi polls, this move is expected to benefit thousands of Haryana-based employees who are eligible to vote in Delhi Election 2025. The decision aligns with the government's commitment to promoting democratic participation while ensuring that no voter is deprived of their right to vote due to work commitments.
