• Recite the opening supplication (Thana) quietly.

• Say ‘Allahu Akbar’ while moving into the bowing position (ruku) with the imam, then continue the prayer as usual.

In the second rakah (unit of prayer):

• Listen to the imam as he again recites Surah Al-Fatihah and another Surah.
• Say three additional Takbirs with the imam. After the third one, let your hands rest at your sides.
• Move into ruku when the imam says ‘Allahu Akbar’ and continue the prayer as normal.

Important Note:?This method follows the Hanafi school of thought. If your imam performs extra Takbirs, follow him. Another common method includes seven Takbirs in the first rakah and five in the second rakah.
