Kanwar Yatra 2024: The Kavad Yatra is an annual pilgrimage undertaken by devotees of Lord Shiva to seek his blessings. During this yatra, devotees known as Kavadiayas walk barefoot to various Shiva temples, collect holy water from the Ganges, and carry it back in their kanwars (decorated pots) to perform anointment rituals for Lord Shiva. Let's find out when the Kavad Yatra starts this year.
The Kanwar Yatra will begin on 22nd July 2024 and conclude on Sawan Shivratri, 2nd August 2024. The Kanwar Yatra is a revered pilgrimage eagerly anticipated by devotees throughout the year. Jalabhishek (water offering) is performed on Sawan Shivratri. This year, the month of Shravan is Adhik Maas (an extra month in the Hindu calendar), so there will be two monthly Shivratris (Sawan Shivratris).
Throughout this month, devotees worship Mahadev, the supreme deity. While Mahadev is worshipped year-round, the month of Sawan is considered especially auspicious for Shiva worship. This year, the extended duration of Sawan adds to its significance, bringing the blessings of Mahadev to devotees.

Most Auspicious Days for Offering Water (Jalabhishek) in Sawan 2024:
During the holy month of Sawan, Shiva devotees participate in the Kanwar Yatra, where thousands walk to Shiva temples and back carrying kanwars filled with Ganga water to offer to Lord Mahadev for blessings. This water is used to anoint the Shiva linga.
Lord Shiva holds the highest position among all gods and is known as Devadhidev Mahadev. It is believed that his blessings can resolve even the most challenging situations. Lord Shiva is easily pleased with sincere devotion, even if it is as simple as offering a glass of water.
According to mythological beliefs, Ravana, a devout follower of Lord Shiva, is considered the first Kanwariya. During a crisis caused by the churning of the ocean and the emergence of poison, Ravana brought Ganga water in his kanwar and used it to anoint the Shivlinga, helping Lord Shiva neutralize the poison.
