Find the latest IPL Points Table 2025, IPL Team Rankings: The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has begun, with the opening match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The IPL 2025 match between PBKS and GT was an exciting contest, with PBKS winning by 11 runs. The game took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and marked a strong beginning for PBKS under their new captain, Shreyas Iyer.
Shreyas Iyer played a stunning knock, remaining unbeaten on 97 off just 42 balls, smashing 9 sixes and 5 fours. He came close to scoring his first IPL century. Shashank Singh also made a big impact with an unbeaten 44 off 16 balls. For GT, Sai Sudharsan was the top scorer with 74 runs, while Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford added 54 and 46 runs respectively. However, their efforts were not enough to chase the target of 244 runs.
The match featured an incredible 32 sixes, with both teams playing an aggressive style of T20 cricket. Batting first after winning the toss, PBKS posted a massive total of 243 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front with his explosive 97*, while opener Priyansh Arya scored 47 off 23 balls on his IPL debut. Shashank Singh's unbeaten 44 off 16 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes, helped PBKS set a huge target.
In response, Gujarat Titans got off to a strong start but finished at 232 for 5, falling short by 11 runs. Sai Sudharsan¡¯s 74 kept them in the chase, with Jos Buttler scoring 54 off 33 balls and Sherfane Rutherford adding a quick 46. Despite their efforts, PBKS bowlers, especially Arshdeep Singh, managed to control the game. The match also saw an 81-run partnership between Iyer and Singh, breaking PBKS¡¯s previous record.
Shreyas Iyer was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance. For GT, Shubman Gill contributed 33 runs, but the team missed crucial opportunities, especially in the middle overs when they managed just 18 runs in three overs. A turning point was Vijaykumar Vyshak¡¯s 15th over, where he gave away only 5 runs, shifting the momentum in PBKS¡¯s favour.
The match was played on a batting-friendly pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which contributed to the high-scoring game. IPL 2025 follows the usual home-and-away format, with 74 matches scheduled from March 22 to May 25, across 13 venues in India, ensuring an exciting and competitive tournament.
As IPL 2025 approaches, teams are fighting to climb the points table. A strong start is advantageous, but history has shown that late surges can also turn things around. The race for the top four spots will be as competitive as ever, with every team striving to secure a playoff berth.
In IPL 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) topped the points table with 20 points, thanks to their consistent performances. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) followed with 17 points each, but SRH secured second place due to a better net run rate (NRR).
One of the biggest highlights of IPL 2024 was Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) incredible comeback. After struggling at the bottom of the table, they won six consecutive matches, overtaking Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to grab the fourth playoff spot.
Meanwhile, CSK, Delhi Capitals (DC), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all finished with 14 points, occupying the fifth, sixth, and seventh positions, respectively, based on their net run rate. Gujarat Titans (GT), runners-up in IPL 2023, finished eighth with 12 points, failing to repeat their past success. Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) struggled throughout the season and ended up in ninth and tenth place, respectively.
As always, the Orange Cap race will be closely followed, with top batters competing to become the season¡¯s leading run-scorer. Fans will track whether new contenders emerge or if past champions continue to dominate.
Similarly, the Purple Cap race will see bowlers competing to take the most wickets. Their performances will be crucial in shaping their teams¡¯ success. Alongside the points table, these individual stats will remain a major talking point throughout IPL 2025.
The IPL points table is more than just a ranking system¡ªit¡¯s an essential tool for fans and fantasy cricket players. By analysing team standings, recent performances, and match venues, fantasy cricket enthusiasts can make informed choices when selecting players for their teams.
Over the years, the points table has captured the highs and lows of different teams, marking the rise of champions and unforgettable performances. As IPL 2025 progresses, fans will keep a close eye on the latest standings, playoff scenarios, and individual achievements.

Mumbai Indians (MI) will be without their captain Hardik Pandya for their first match of IPL 2025, as he serves a one-match suspension due to an over-rate offence from last season. This means the star all-rounder will miss MI¡¯s opening clash against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.
In his absence, Suryakumar Yadav will take over as captain. Hardik confirmed this during a press conference on Wednesday, where he was joined by MI¡¯s coach, Mahela Jayawardene.
"Suryakumar Yadav has led India as well. He will captain Mumbai Indians in the first match," Hardik said when asked about his suspension.
The MI skipper also expressed his gratitude for having experienced leaders in the squad. "I¡¯m lucky to have three captains playing alongside me ¨C Rohit (Sharma), Surya, and (Jasprit) Bumrah. They always support me and are there whenever I need help," he added.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah¡¯s return to the team remains uncertain as he continues to recover from a back injury. Currently, he is at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), as confirmed by Jayawardene.
"We are waiting for NCA¡¯s update on Bumrah. He is still there and in good spirits. Hopefully, he can rejoin the team soon," said the coach. "Not having him is a challenge, but it also gives someone else the chance to step up and prove themselves."
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) home match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 6 at Eden Gardens is expected to be rescheduled due to security concerns surrounding Ram Navami celebrations.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari previously announced that over 20,000 processions will take place across West Bengal on the festival day, leading to increased security requirements. Following two rounds of discussions with city police, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly confirmed that authorities have not granted security clearance for the match.
"They have clearly stated that they won¡¯t be able to provide adequate security. Without police protection, managing a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible," Ganguly explained.
The CAB has informed the BCCI, and a final decision is yet to be made. Ganguly also recalled that last year, an IPL match on Ram Navami had to be rescheduled due to similar concerns.
The anticipated clash between KKR and LSG, owned by RPSG Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka, was expected to attract a full house, given the strong local fan base. However, with security concerns looming, the match is likely to be shifted to a different date.
Meanwhile, young fast bowler Mayank Yadav has resumed bowling in the nets as LSG await fitness clearance from the BCCI. He is recovering from a back injury and has been undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
The IPL 2025 season will kick off with a grand opening ceremony featuring Bollywood stars Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, known for their high-energy performances. Their presence is set to add glamour to the event with dazzling dance moves.
Additionally, renowned playback singer Arijit Singh will deliver a soulful performance, bringing a musical touch to the celebrations. His mesmerising voice is sure to captivate the audience, making the ceremony a blend of entertainment and cricket fever.
Ahead of IPL 2025, South African cricketer Faf du Plessis has been named vice-captain of DC. The team announced this update on their official X (Twitter) handle.
